Our role

We are here to represent the interests of our GPs and Practices.

The fast pace of change currently occurring within General Practice has led to a more complex and diversified role for the LMC.

The main functions and duties of our LMC are to:

Provide Advice

We provide valuable and up to date advice on essential subjects including premises and contractual matters. We can advise on partnership and employment issues as well as benefit our members from our close relationships with other Organisations such as the BMA, the GPC and other LMCs. We can provide templates and guidelines for responding to requests from third parties.

Act as Representatives

The LMC has an essential role in influencing local and national health policy. We act as representatives for our local GPs when liaising with other Organisations such as the CCG, Public Health, The Local Authority, Secondary Care and NHS England. We ensure that the voice of General Practice is heard loud and clear.

Offer Support

We are here to ensure that our GPs are valued and their skills properly utilised. We understand the challenges of working in General Practice and can offer independent and confidential advice and support to those in need of it. We are very experienced in dealing with a wide variety of General Practice issues and are keen for our members to seek our support.
