Role Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and welcoming team at Brig Royd Surgery.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated team in providing high quality care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the nursing team with health promotion programs
  • Baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • 24-hour BP monitoring
  • Undertake wound care/dressings
  • Support the management of chronic disease/long term condition reviews
  • BMI checks
  • Chaperone as required
  • Flu/Covid/Shingles/Pneumococcal/B12 vaccinations
  • Specimen handling
  • Support during minor operations as required
  • Room stocking
  • Fridge management, clinical waste and sharps bins
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Venepuncture
  • ECGs
  • Audits
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care

About us

Brig Royd Surgery are looking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful experienced Health Care Assistant who is committed to providing excellent care to our patients to join our friendly team.

The ideal candidate would be a team player who would thrive on being part of a growing and busy practice with the enthusiasm to play a key part in our plans for the future.

Our current clinical team comprises of 7 GP Partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 1 ANP, 2 Practice nurses, 2 Health Care Assistants, and support teams.

With a list size of approximately 10,500, we are a high achieving QOF practice based in purpose built surroundings, CQC rated good.

 

Job responsibilities

To support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Hours of work

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 8.00am until 2.30pm

Wednesday 8.00am – 2.30pm/2.30pm-9.00pm Alternate weeks

The role will also include cover for extended access, occasional Saturday and occasional 8:00pm finish on a Friday.

Essential

  • Healthcare qualification or equivalent level
  • 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Clear, polite telephone manner
  • Competent in the use of patient record management systems: SystmOne
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Dressings
  • Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • New patient medicals including height, weight, BP, pulse
  • Chaperone procedure
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Spirometry
  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Immunisation (flu, covid, B12, pneumococcal & shingles)

Desirable

  • Experience of working in General Practice
