Covid19 Daily Briefing 12 June

**Email sent on behalf of the LMC, Clinical Directors and NHS Calderdale CCG**

a) Important – Please Read: Minimising nosocomial infections in the NHS – Action Required by ALL practices

Letter from NHSE attached. This letter contains details of the actions needed to be taken by Primary Care and General Practice and includes the requirement for business continuity arrangements to be reviewed and in place. The OPEL reporting process supports this in Calderdale, however please ensure that you have considered the required actions in the event of an outbreak. There are also requirements placed on practices to ensure that correct social distancing, infection prevention control and risk assessments are in place. Attention to detail in planning and risk assessing will reduce the impact of test and trace on your workforce and ensure that general practice remains resilient. It is likely that assurance will be required by the CCG in relation to each practices’ response to the actions outlined in this letter and the links contained within.

b) Sit Rep Reporting

Thanks to all the practices for completing this. In light of feedback we are revising the submission time to Monday at 11:30am. Please complete and send to calccg.calderdale.transformation@nhs.net

c) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) portal access

Following our update on 2nd June 2020, we understand some practices have started to receive their emails to enable direct ordering of PPE via the new portal, which is slowly being rolled out across our region.

Initial feedback has been mixed with some practices ordering and receiving items very quickly, some practices having a problem placing an order and some practices not yet receiving their email with access.

With this in mind, please remember you can log your urgent PPE needs on the weekly PC sitrep and we will then place an emergency order by through the Local Resilience Forum managed by the Local Authority (LA LRF).

The deadline for PPE requests is Monday at 11:30am, ready for the call at 12 noon. Urgent PPE requirements form part of the weekly sitrep and following feedback from practices we have now moved the submission time for the sit-rep to 11:30am. If you need to request supplies outside of the sit rep reporting times just email any urgent PPE needs into calccg.calderdale.transformation@nhs.net

FAO Tina and she will order for you via the LRF. (Reminder: this service is for urgent <72 hours supply needs). Thank you.

d) HSE safety alert issued against KN95 facemask

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is warning against the use of KN95 facemasks as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). A safety alert has been issued, Thursday 11 June 2020, urging all employers and suppliers not to purchase or use KN95 facemasks as PPE. Products manufactured to KN95 requirements rely on a self-declaration of compliance by the manufacturer. re is no independent certification or assurance of their quality.

This respirator has been identified as suspect by HSE experts and locally arranged testing has confirmed they would not meet requirements, including to protect against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. About 90% of the PPE concerns and queries currently being received by HSE involve KN95 masks which are often accompanied by fake or fraudulent paperwork. KN95 has not been a principal source of PPE for the NHS, who has already made the decision not to supply this respirator to frontline clinicians fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

e) Clinical negligence indemnity arrangements during the COVID-19 pandemic
